Food, wine writers to get a taste of Niagara this weekend

More than 10 food and wine writers from across the United States and Canada will visit Niagara County this weekend to get a taste of what the region offers.

Hosted by the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corp., the "Up Close and Savory" tour will give the writers a chance to check out food from local eateries and the Niagara Wine Trail. They'll also be making stops at the Maid of the Mist, Lockport Cave & Underground Boat Ride, Lockport Locks and Erie Canal Cruises and Old Fort Niagara. At the fort, writers will be served a pig roast dinner made with local goods at sunset on Saturday.

“Our objective with this tour is to provide an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to these influential journalists and allow them to spread the word about our extraordinary county and its attractions,” NTCC President and CEO John Percy said in a written statement. “Niagara is not just about Niagara Falls – our agriculture is a natural wonder waiting to be re-discovered.”

Attendees are being encouraged to use the #NiagaraUSA and #TasteNiagara hashtags during events running today through Sunday.
